Sight test

• We offer no-charge, student-led eye examinations supervised by qualified and practising optometrists.
• A thorough examination of your eyes is carried out to check your vision and to assess the health of your eyes.
• Optometrist-led eye examinations are available outside of term time charged at £25 for UWE Bristol staff and students (including an OCT scan) or £50 for non-UWE Bristol personnel.
• If patients require spectacles or new lenses, a prescription will be issued with the new specifications.
• Find out if you are entitled to a free NHS sight test. 

Spectacles dispensing

• We have a full range of frames for every budget, starting at £29 with single vision lenses. A UWE Bristol discount of 20% off is available on spectacles costing £69 and above.
• Our designer brands start from £99 complete and include brands like Rayban, Polo Ralph Lauren, M by Missoni, Elle and Fila.
• We have a full range of lenses, including bifocal from £40 and varifocal from £69 with hard coatings, anti-reflection coats and tints, for leisure, computer and occupational needs
• Sports eyewear, swimming goggles and sunglasses are available. 

Contact lens fitting

We offer a no-charge student-led contact lens consultation and aftercare examinations for new and existing wearers, supervised by qualified optometrists.

Optometrist-led eye assessments are available throughout the year for £35 or £20 for a check-up.

A full range of contact lenses are available from most of the brand leaders, including daily and monthly, silicone hydrogel, toric and multifocal, and gas permeable.

Paediatric clinic

The Eye Clinic is child-friendly, with a designated children's waiting room separate to the main clinic, child-specific equipment and a dispensary with a full range of children’s frames from babies to teenagers.

All children under 16 years old are covered for an NHS-funded assessment. If any spectacles are required, you can use the NHS voucher for either a complete pair or put it towards the cost of a designer pair with a reduced fee top-up.  

Binocular vision clinic

Patients are normally referred to this clinic by an eye care practitioner. Appointments are no-charge when led by a specialist optometrist with up to four students observing and helping.

Private appointments for under 16s and adults are available – please contact reception for details. 

Low vision clinic

This clinic is run in conjunction with the Sight Support West of England team. It offers assessments and assistance to the visually impaired as an alternative to the hospital system. You may already be registered as sight impaired or severely sight impaired. We also welcome patients who have not been diagnosed with sight impairment but find their sight cannot be improved to their satisfaction with conventional spectacles or contact lenses.

Appointments are no-charge when led by a specialist optometrist with up to four students observing and helping. We also provide private assessments outside of term time for £35. We also have a range of low-vision aids that can be purchased. 

After your appointment, you can also have a further consultation with the Sight Support West of England team, who can show you various non optical aids that can help you your with everyday living tasks, as well as signpost to all the relevant social services and local voluntary organisations available in the South West for people with visual impairment.
