Please take care during your visit as the floor inside and surrounding Bristol Cathedral is uneven in places.

Graduands will need to register on arrival at the desks inside the cloisters entrance of the cathedral. We recommend arriving approximately two hours before the ceremony begins.

Registration for morning ceremonies will begin at 08:30, for afternoon ceremonies at 12:00 and for evening ceremonies at 15:00. The registration desk will close 45 minutes before your ceremony start time. It is essential that you have registered before this point.



Graduands must sit in designated seats on the stage at the front of the cathedral.

Guest seating

Guests should use the north door entrance to the cathedral. Your guests can begin to take their seats in the main nave of the cathedral from 09:30, 13:00 and 16:00. View instructions for collecting your pre-purchased guest tickets.

Due to health and safety restrictions we cannot allow standing during the ceremony. All guests must have a ticket and be seated 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony.

Access and parking

Access requirements

Wheelchair access is available through the north door of the cathedral and appropriate seating will be arranged. Stewards will be pleased to show you to your seats when you arrive at the cathedral. Please note, there is no parking available for visitors at the Bristol Cathedral. Unfortunately, there is no parking in the cathedral grounds. Some on-street parking is available in the cathedral area but is usually restricted to a maximum of two hours. There are a number of car parks near to Bristol Cathedral, which are well signposted from the city centre. The nearby parking options we recommend are:

  • College Street, BS1 5UY – behind Council House, north west of Bristol Cathedral. Approximately 100 spaces. Pay and Display. A two-minute walk.
  • College Square, BS1 5TS – west of the cathedral, by the Abbey Gatehouse. Eight spaces only. Pay and Display, Sunday no charge. One-minute walk and ideal for the less mobile.
  • Trenchard Street, BS1 5AN – off Park Street. 950 spaces. A five-minute walk.
  • Bristol Harbourside, BS1 5LF – Canons Way. 384 spaces. A five-to ten-minute walk.
  • Millennium Square/We The Curious, BS1 5LL – adjacent to We The Curious, 550 spaces. A five-to-ten-minute walk.


The professional photographers Ede and Ravenscroft, (tel: +44 (0)1733 563565) will be available in the cathedral after you have registered and robed. You may book your photography prior to the event or pay on the day.

Guests taking photos

We ask that all guests be seated during the ceremony. However, photography is allowed from a seated position.

Ceremony programme

Ceremony programmes are printed booklets which list all graduand names and outline the ceremony schedule, allowing guests to follow what is happening during the ceremony. They are also a great souvenir of the day!

Please note: Ceremony programmes are not tickets for the event. Guests will not be allowed entry to the ceremony without a valid Guest Ticket.

Ceremony video and DVD

A professional DVD of your graduation ceremony will be available to purchase online for £12 following your ceremony. Please note that DVDs will be available to purchase online only.

Guest filming

We ask that all guests be seated during the ceremony. However, guests are allowed to film from a seated position.


The coffee shop in Bristol Cathedral serves light refreshments from 09:00 until 17:00. There are also many restaurants in the Bristol Cathedral area.

Alumni reception

After your ceremony you will be able to join friends, family and tutors in the marquee adjacent to the cathedral to enjoy drinks. Only graduating students and guests with tickets will have access to the marquee.


The ceremony will last approximately one hour.

Depending on the time of your ceremony, a typical graduation day will be as follows. Please note that timings below will start two hours ahead of your ceremony time, as this is when you are asked to arrive.

Time Description

Arrive in the cloisters entrance of the cathedral two hours ahead of your ceremony time to register your arrival, collect any guest tickets, your ceremony programme and collect your academic robes.

08:30/12:00/15:00 Photography studio opens for professional photographs (the studios are very busy throughout the day – arrive early if you require photographs to be taken.)
09:30–17:00 The coffee shop in the cathedral serves light refreshments.
10:15/13:45/16:45 Graduands should be seated at the front of the cathedral. Guests should be seated in the nave.
10:30/14:00/17:00 Ceremonies begin.
11:30/15:00/18:00 Refreshments will be served at the Alumni Reception in the marquee adjacent to the cathedral after the ceremony.
12:00/15:30/18:30 Graduates return their robes in the marquee.

Live streaming

We will be live streaming all the awards ceremonies online and in a venue near Bristol Cathedral.

Please note: the Cathedral is an old building with very thick walls. Please bear with us if there are any technical difficulties with the stream  professionals will be on hand but as with anything technical we could experience unforeseen issues.
