The Paul Stephenson Bursary
Eligible for new applicants to the Faculty of Arts Creative Industries and Education.
About the bursary
The Paul Stephenson Bursary is an award of £1,000 a year for the first two years of your study at UWE Bristol and is designed to widen participation in higher education and help people to succeed in furthering their ambitions. The bursary is only available to new applicants to UWE Bristol.
We will be awarding bursaries to five students from BAME backgrounds.
Paul Stephenson, OBE, is a community worker, activist and long-time campaigner for civil rights for the British African Caribbean community. He lives in Bristol and in 1963 he led a boycott of the Bristol Omnibus Company protesting against its refusal to employ Black or Asian drivers or conductors. After a 60 day boycott, the company revoked its colour bar ban.
If accepted as a Paul Stephenson Bursary Student, you will receive financial support of £1,000 in each of your first two years of study paid in three instalments across each year. In return for this money we ask you to complete a piece of project work around widening participation for BAME students in higher education using the skills you will have learnt on your course.
The closing date for applications is 3 July. For further details contact Myra.firstname.lastname@example.org
