Annabelle+

When UWE law student Annabelle’s world was turned upside down by a serious accident in 2011, she could not have imagined bouncing back so strongly. Becoming more closely involved with university clubs and societies provided a source of inspiration and points the way to career opportunities after graduation.

“Being a part of Dance and Cheerleading at UWE, and being on both of their committees, has given me more credentials for my CV than I ever could have hoped for. As a member of my squads, I have gained a variety of skills, from teamwork to leadership, communication to problem solving, organisation to commitment and dedication, and I have made more friends than I ever thought possible.

“I have learnt how to coordinate a group and use everyone’s unique potential for the benefit of the team as a whole, and along the way I have gained confidence. I have also gained my coaching qualifications, which I believe will be a huge asset when applying for jobs, as they will help prove I have the perseverance, ability to work under pressure and motivational skills to succeed.

“University has enabled me to try something new and find a hobby for life. There is something that you learn from being part of a sports team that you will never get from a lecturer.”
