Why study at UWE?

Teaching and research excellence

The University is renowned for its reputation for teaching, with all subjects being externally assessed as consistently excellent. It also has one of the fastest growing research environments in UK universities, with more than 30 Research Centres, each a centre of excellence in its field.

Strong links with employers

Employers are closely involved in the development and delivery of many of our courses: after all, they know what they are looking for in an employee, and what knowledge and skills they need. Courses that are accredited by professional bodies have to fulfil the particular requirements of the profession, so are completely in tune with the world of work. In response to current needs of government and other bodies, UWE runs a number of courses dedicated to addressing specific areas such as flood defence, housing or transport planning.

Putting theory into practice

We are justifiably proud of our record in giving students the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their chosen career. Our team of academics is over 1,000 strong: some of them are still professionally active, others come to higher education after working in their field. Field trips and visits, and talks by visiting experts all contribute to a rounded view of the subject area. Many of our courses, even those that do not have an obviously vocational emphasis, include work experience and professional practice modules.
