Events

The Staff Association hold many events throughout the year. These are just a sample of the activities available to Members of the Staff Association. We are always eager to hear of other activities and events that our membership would like to see happen and we also support Members in setting up new clubs.

Events
  • Buffets - These are for Members only and are held near Easter and Christmas each year. It is during these that we hold our Grand Raffles. In the past we have also had a Welcome Buffet which took place in October but members were finding it increasingly difficult to get any spare time to join us. This being the case it was agreed to move it to July and make it a Summer Buffet, which hopefully more members would be able to have 'lunch breaks' during which to attend!
  • Grand Raffles - We hold 2 Grand Raffles each year - both draws take place during the Easter and Christmas Buffets. There are around 50 good quality prizes and tickets are sent out to representative members across the University a few weeks before. Members and non-members are welcome to purchase tickets. The Raffles are non-profit making so all proceeds are spent on prizes!
  • Dances - These are held at Easter and Christmas. They are supported by a DJ, Disco and occasionally there is a live band playing for us. The ticket price includes a supper and is always good value for money! Non-members are welcome to attend.
  • Pantomime - The annual children's Pantomime is performed by a professional touring group. This event is heavily subsidised by the Staff Association and is for children and grandchildren, aged 4-11 years old, of Members only. Children also receive an interval 'goody bag' and have a chance to speak to Father Christmas after the performance. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • AGM - The Annual General Meeting now takes place in January each year.
The posts of Chair, Secretary, Vice Chair & General Committee (x 6 min) are nominated annually and the post of Treasurer is for 3 years.
Each year we need interested members to join us as often we lose Committee due to retirement or changes of employment. We welcome nominations from all Campuses and Departments as the more diverse the Committee the better we can serve our entire Membership.
The Committee are all voluntary and give their own time as a lot of the activities and events are planned and co-ordinated during lunchtimes, after work and over the occasional weekend.
