Dr Rakesh Kaushal

Research: The
Journalism Policy and Practice Research Group
Teaching Areas
I am currently teaching the level one module News Media and Society, the year two course Journalism and Society and the MA core module Journalism and Democracy.
I have taught on a number of different modules and schemes at the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, Cardiff University and the Centre for Mass Communication, University of Leicester. These have included Media History, Political Communication, Global Communication, Research Methods and Audience Studies amongst many others.
Research Interests
I am mainly interested in the political and policy dimensions of new communications technologies and the applications for citizens. I have recently completed a doctorate on the array of institutional, technological and ideological issues facing television as it undergoes change. This entailed examining government policy, the industrial shifts within broadcasting along with an empirical analysis of programming patterns. I am planning to continue investigating this area in the near future together with exploring the interface of new technologies with journalism.
