Stephen Hoskins is Hewlett Packard Professor of Fine Print and Director of the Centre for Fine Print Research at the University of the West of England Bristol UK and Vice-President of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.

Stephen studied at West Surrey College of Art and The Royal College of Art. His primary area of research is in continuous tone photomechanical processes and their application with current technology, particularly in relation to printed ceramics.

Stephen has recently written a book on Water Based Screenprinting published by A and C black, which is currently being translated into German and Chinese. He is currently writing a new book for A and C Black entiltled 'Ink for Printmakers'. Stephen is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Printmaking Today.

As a practising printmaker Stephen has recently completed four giant Kites commissioned by the banking group Lloyds TSB. He has exhibited widely throughout the world including the 5th, 6th and 7th International Exhibit of prints and drawings Taipei ROC. The 9th International Print Biennial, Varna, Bulgaria. The 1st Tokyo miniature print triennal Tokyo Japan. The 3rd Triennial of Miniature Prints Chamaliers, France and the 1st Malaysian Print Biennial Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

  • ‘Development of a Conservation and Restoration Plan and Records Management System for the Lands and Survey Division, 2007-2008’
    Consultancy Field Visit and Report of Recommendations, Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Maritime Resources, Land and Surveys Division, Trinidad and Tobago High Commission
    Developing a conservation and documentation plan for the extensive records held within Lands and Survey Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Govt. and which are currently at risk of damage due to current storage facilities and usage protocols. Drawing on previous experience of working with collection protocol and documentation to current MA registration standards as well as working with photographic collections and conservation / preservation concerns unique to this medium.
