Intern 2.5D Printing
Nick is a second year MA Design Student, and currently interning at CFPR. The focus of the internship is to assist in the development of a smart paintbrush holder for use in 2.5D printing. The brush holder requires a mechanical design allowing four degrees of freedom, while also incorporating sensors to feed data back into the printing system. The intended outcome is to develop a brush mechanism that can be computer controlled with varying amounts of force compliance and force sensitivity.
Through his professional work and MA portfolio, Nick has continued to develop his background in both 2D and 3D design, which has also extended into 3D printing and prototyping. Recently he has started a 3d printing hub service in Bristol where makers and hobbyists can get advice and print their models.
With a background in live video, including LED and projection mapping technologies, Nick also, has experimented with custom LED programming and arrays, building bespoke LED systems using Arduino, as well as video mapping via Artnet and DMX.
Examples of his work can be viewed at ddld.uk.
