Alice Drake

Print and Artists' Books Projects Intern at the CFPR

Alice Drake

Alice graduated from the Illustration BA Hons degree course, at the University of the West of England (UWE) in June 2011.

Alice is now coordinating the What’s in the Box? Artist’s Book Project; chairs the Artists’ Book Club; has founded the Bind and Unwind Bookbinding Circle, and is a workshop assistant in the Print Centre. She has been involved in a number of artists’ book projects and makes artists’ books for book fairs and exhibitions.

Throughout her life Alice has had an interest in fine print and artists’ books but it wasn’t until half way through her degree that she noticed she had accidentally made them for almost every module. After this realisation she decided on some decisive action and in 2009 did an internship with Sarah Bodman at the CFPR. Since then she has assisted at artists’ books conferences, curated and installed exhibitions and been a workshop assistant in bookbinding and paper mechanics.

In her own practice Alice uses a broad range of media and printing processes in innovative way. She specialises in collagraph printmaking, paper mechanics and reinventing the book form for narrative ends. She often incorporates laser cutting and etching when making plates and does all of her own binding and fabrication for installation work.
