As part of the practice-led AHRC funded research project "Paper Models: investigating Laser cutting technology to develop new artists’ books and paper based creative practice for arts, crafts and design", the Centre for Fine Print Research is holding a one-day symposium on laser cutting for book and paper artists.
The project aims explore the potential of the laser cutter as a tool for artists working with the book form and paper-based work, and show how it could replace the need for labour intensive manipulation of paper and card by hand. The project also aims to change attitudes to creative making and increase awareness of the advantage of new technologies for artists/craftspeople.
Speakers include the artists Su Blackwell and Jenny Smith, a talk on the project by Tom Sowden, a demonstration on using the laser cutters for book and paper-based artwork and a round table Q&A session.
