As part of the practice-led AHRC funded research project "Innovation in Vitreous Enamel Surface for Jewellery", the Centre for Fine Print Research is holding a one-day symposium to address the place of enamel within contemporary jewellery practice celebrating its potential as an exciting and innovative material. At a time when increasing numbers of contemporary jewellers are rediscovering enamel this event offers a timely opportunity for the sharing of information, ideas and debate.
The three year research project has investigated the barriers to innovation and experimentation in enamel jewellery and the potential that alternative approaches have to encourage a new attitude to enamel.
The symposium will include a talk on the project by Jessica Turrell, Reinterpreting Glass on Metal a presentation by Elizabeth Turrell, senior research fellow in enamel at UWE and a presentation by Christine Graf an enamel artist from Munich will examine the central role enamel plays in her studio practice.
There will be an opportunity to visit the enamel research studios housed in the Bower Ashton campus and an exhibition of the results of the experiments and finished artefacts resulting from the research project.
