The Enamel Research Unit has been awarded funding from the Newby Trust for a 12 month traineeship to make a significant contribution to the field of enamel on metal.
The training programme will develop as an integrated series of workshops, mentoring and project. The training outcome will be in developing a range of new creative skills for the individual trainee, who will study in the enamel studio on a part-time basis, over twelve months.
The Enamel research unit hosts the International Contemporary Vitreous Enamel Archive (ICVEA) which is a major international resource for research into contemporary enamelling. The trainee will have full access to ICVEA and will gain knowledge in the following traditional skills:
Basse-Taille
Champleve
Cloisonne
Etching
Stencilling
Water-slide transfers
The trainee will also have access to the full range of new technologies currently available at the CFPR including 3D rapid prototyping, laser cutting and wide format digital print. The award holder will be mentored by Elizabeth Turrell and invited overseas enamel artists including Professor Robert Ebendorf.
