BA(Hons) Journalism - Joint Honours (Half Award)

(Half Award) - Joint honours UCAS codes see www.uwe.ac.uk/courses

Journalism at UWE is based on a special blend of research and practice. You will be taught by an experienced, international staff of academic researchers and practising journalists.

This course will develop your skills in print, broadcast and multimedia journalism from which you can build a portfolio of work. This is underpinned by academic study to develop your critical insights into the state of journalism, communication and the media industries today, including the ethical and political role which journalists play in society.

We have strong links with the MediaWise Trust, an independent charity with an international reputation for its work on journalism ethics, training, consultancy and research, as well as with the National Union of Journalists and the Royal Television Society.

Our students benefit from being able to combine journalism with another subject, providing a rich educational experience and a broad knowledge-base.

What will I study?

Each year you will take two Journalism modules and two more from your other chosen half award.

In Year 1 you take modules in News Media and Society and Journalism Writing. This foundation is developed further through the Year 2 modules: Journalism and Public Communication and Local and Visual Journalism.

In Year 3 you develop more specialised interests by opting for two of the following modules: Critical Reporting; International Journalism; Journalism Dissertation; Multimedia Journalism; Work Placement.
