heat@uwe events

The ultimate aim of heat@uwe is to develop a long-term culture at UWE to sustain interdisciplinary research. This will be facilitated through a number of events to initiate research ideas and develop links between researchers.

Events include:
  • Bridging the Gaps Network Meeting

heat@uwe hosted the annual Bridging the Gaps Network Meeting on 8th September 2011. Around sixty delegates attended the event representing past and current grant holders as well as institutions who are new to EPSRC's Bridging the Gaps funding. The aim was to enable the delegates to share their experiences and develop best practice on creating and facilitating an interdisciplinary research environment; these discussions have been compiled into Best Practice Guidance for Interdisciplinary Research.

  • Visioning conference

The visioning conference was held in January 2010 and provided an opportunity to develop research ideas and project teams.

  • Hot House

The hot house was held in January 2011 and initiated the development of interdisciplinary research around the three themes of Sustainable Healthy Behaviours, Low Carbon Futures and Healthy Aging.

  • Teams and themes workshops

These workshops offer a more regular method for the development of research ideas. The 'Theme' may have been developed during the Visioning Conference or can be proposed by a member of the heat network. Each workshop will centre on a current issue with a diverse range of experts tackling the issue from their individual perspectives.

  • Networking events

heat@uwe will host regular networking events to provide members of the heat network with an opportunity to meet those with a complementary research interests to their own. A series of networking events have been organised.

  • heat@uwe lecture and lunch

A lecture and lunch series will run annually with a focus on different aspects of interdisciplinary research. The 2012 Programme has now been finalised and is open to all members of the heat network.

  • Seminars

heat@uwe can organise half day seminars on interdisciplinary themes to communicate the research currently taking place in UWE. Themes for these can be proposed by members of the heat network and are open to all members.

Details of heat@uwe events are circulated to members of the heat network.
