Electronic Submission of Printing

Welcome to the new version of our electronic print submission system called "Skyline". If you have ANY difficulties please contact Carolyn Hancocks on 84674. Please take the time to read the notes below before using the system.

Getting Started

If you are accessing the system away from your desk at UWE please see these additional instructions.

When you first access the system you will be asked to log in. Use your normal UWE network ID and password. You can tick 'Remember me next time' and you will not need to log on again.

To submit your print job:-

  1. Select your file and upload to the server. The server will then convert to PDF and add to your list of uploaded files.
  2. Review the PDF to ensure it precisely matches your original document
  3. Select the file and submit for printing
  4. Enter your job requirements and request it to be printed.

Date Required

We still need a week's notice to print most jobs, even with this system, but can cope with reduced timescales for urgent jobs. Please select the date you really need the job returned so we can better respond to everyone's needs - the more notice you give us, the better we can manage the work for all customers.

Special Instructions

You must carefully check the preview of your document before you finally submit the request. As we will not have a paper copy to check we will have no way of identifying problems with the printing. In particular you need to check fonts haven't changed, page breaks are in the same place and any field codes have the correct values.

Embed Fonts

You must embed all fonts in your document. To do this (Office 2007):

  • Excel: We have yet to find a way to embed fonts. Non-standard fonts will be automatically substituted - we have no control over this. If you need to use non-standard fonts you must provide the file as a PDF or Postscript file with the fonts embedded.
  • PowerPoint: Office Button, PowerPoint Options, Save, tick 'Embed Fonts in the file', un-tick 'Embed only the characters used in the presentation'.
  • Word: Office Button, Word Options, Save, tick 'Embed Fonts in the file', un-tick 'Embed only the characters used in the document'.

Note: We are not able to load additional fonts on the server.

MS Word

Field codes in Word will be updated when the document is converted on the server to PDF. This means your data will not be printed correctly. To overcome this, save a copy of your file under a different name. Open this new copy, highlight the whole document (Ctrl A) then press Ctrl-Shift-F9. If you have fields in your headers and/or footers, open each section's header and footer, select the entire area and press Ctrl-Shift-F9. This updates your fields and converts them to the current value. Save your document and submit.

MS PowerPoint

If you just want to print the slides you can upload the file as normal. If you want to print any other view (e.g. slides and notes, handout view) you will need to compress (ZIP) the file and upload the zipped file. Tell us which view you want to print in the notes.

Cost Centre

You must enter a valid cost centre to submit a job and be authorised by the manager of that cost centre to commit spend against this code. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THIS.

Delivery Address

The first time you use the system you will need to enter your delivery address. After entering and checking the details tick 'Save this delivery address' so you do not have to re-enter the details next time you use the service.
