Designing Your Print Job

The Central Graphic Design Studio provides a comprehensive in-house design service for all UWE Faculties and staff. They are responsible for the corporate identity and policing of all the external publicity material, whilst maintaining the highest creative standards. Services include brochure work, prospectuses, advertisements, exhibition panels and electronic artwork. Click here to read their guidance notes for designing such documents.

For other types of printing work we have created some suggestions to ensure your documents are presented in a professional manner. Click here to read these suggestions.

Copyright

Please ensure you follow the guidelines laid down in Library Services' 'Introduction to Copyright' pages. We must refuse to print items where we feel these regulations are being broken. If you are asking to re-produce large sections of copyright material you must also provide evidence that the copyright holder has granted permission. The person submitting the print request bears ulitimate responsibility for breach of copyright regulations.

Reducing the cost

Some ideas to control the cost of printing are listed on this page.

Submitting Your Print Job

Please ensure you allow sufficient time for us to print your job. We handle approximately 25,000 jobs every year, in the region of 34 million A4 sheets, with a large volume of this work submitted between late August and early October.

  • Ideally you will give us a minimum of 7 days to turn your work around but we understand that from time to time customers have short leadtimes imposed on them - exam field boards are a case in point. We will work with you to achieve your dates. Please call us if you have work that will be required urgently and we will do all we can to accommodate your needs.
  • Quote the actual date you want your work returned, don't just date the job a week ahead because...
  • We give priority to work with the longest leadtimes, ensuring that we return this work by the date requested.
  • Please give us a realistic timescale for producing your work, bearing in mind the time for postal deliveries in both directions; we frequently get jobs where we only have half a day to print the job which is impossible to achieve in most cases.
  • Bear in mind in your planning that manual finishing (e.g. inserting into ring binders, comb/wire/spiral binding) takes longer. Please call for guidance.
  • A request for printing 'ASAP' translates to 7 days - always quote the actual date you want the work returned.
  • Provide e-mail and telephone contact details so we can get in touch with queries (e.g. missing pages, unclear instructions). If you will not be contactable before your 'required by' date, please give us the name of someone who can assist with queries.
