Getting Ink, Toner and Staples and Paper Loading Instructions

Please ensure toner and ink is not stockpiled in order to reduce not just your storage requirements but to ensure that they do not become obsolete when new machines arrive or old machines are removed. By only holding one set of cartridges and toner for each device and re-ordering as these are used you will also reduce waste and costs for the University.

Printing and Stationery Services (PSS) hold a stock of popular cartridges at Emerson's Green therefore the majority of toner and ink cartridges can be delivered to you the next day.

Should you have surplus cartridges please return these to PSS, stating where they are from (faculty / device / location/ your details). If we are able to re-sell these we will credit the cost centre you advise us of at the time of return, failing that we will dispose of, or recycle, them on your behalf.

Inks, Toner and Other Consumables Ordering

From January 2010 these are ordered from PSS (rather than the supplier) on your normal stationery order form. Click here for instructions on how to place an order

Please note that the University's financial regulations require you to purchase all printer cartridges and toners through PSS. You may not purchase them through any other source.

Printer Cartridges

Each printer cartridge has a reference number printed on its housing. When ordering replacements please state this number, if this is unavailable state the make and model of the printer in the space provided at the end of the stationery order form.

To help you find the correct cartridge for your printer here are some links to manufacturers' sites. You will need to know the precise model number for your printer to find the details you require.

These are issued to you free of charge. Please only keep one spare cartridge for each machine and re-order as soon as it is used.

Loading Paper

To prevent unnecessary jams,

1. Remove the paper from the wrapper (note which way up the paper is)
2. Fan the ream (whilst keeping note of the orientation of the ream)
3. Load the whole ream in the paper tray (ensuring that it goes into the tray this way up, as shown on the right.)


To put it another way, load in the tray wrapper seam side down.

Cartridge Recycling Bins

Please recycle your empty ink and toner cartridges in the bins which are now located throughout the University. Please do not return your empty cartridges to Printing & Stationery. Click here for a list of locations.
