Opening Inter-Library Loan (Secure Electronic Delivery) Documents
After requesting an inter-library loan, you should receive an email from the British Library that looks like the example on the right. You then have 14 days (from the date on the email) to download, read and/or print the document.
Procedure
UWE Library SED documents open in Adobe Reader (any version) using the FileOpen plugin so please ignore any references to Adobe Digital Editions in your British Library email.
From a UWE computer
FileOpen should already be installed on all UWE computers for both staff and students.
- Simply follow the 'Click here to download your document' link in your email and the document should download and open in Adobe Reader.
From your own computer
To view and print the document, you need to have Adobe Reader installed along with the FileOpen plugin (most computers will already have Adobe Reader installed and so will just need to install FileOpen).
- Once these are both installed, follow the 'Click here to download your document' link in your email and the document should download and open in Adobe Reader.
Problems with your document?
- The SED document can only be opened on one computer and can only be printed once. Make sure you open the document on a machine connected to a printer.
- If you are having trouble with the download link, try highlighting and copying the link at the bottom of the email (labeled 'Link to your secure document') and pasting it into your web browser's address field.
- If all else fails, please contact Library Customer Services.
