Rights and Responsibilities of Library Users

Rights.

  • Once you have registered and received your UWE ID/Library card you may use any of the UWE campus libraries.
  • As a member of UWE Library you may borrow and reserve books and other materials providing you do not have any outstanding debts or overdue materials (if you are not a UWE student or member of staff, some categories of material may not be available for borrowing).
  • You are entitled to expect a courteous and helpful response from Library staff and to be treated with respect.
  • You are entitled to spend a reasonable time with Library staff concerning your information and service needs.
  • Your comments and suggestions about Library services will always be welcomed and will be considered and responded to promptly and thoroughly.
  • You are entitled to expect that information about Library developments, activities and policies, including fire and safety regulations, will be publicly available.

Responsibilities.

  • You are responsible for making yourself aware of and abiding by current Library regulations including loans and fines policy.
  • You are responsible for all items issued to you until they are returned and your record cleared. If you lose, deface or damage any Library material you will be liable to pay the cost of its replacement.
  • Your UWE ID/Library card and PIN are for your use only and should be carried with you at all times.
  • If you are a UWE student or member of staff you are responsible for informing your faculty or service if you change your address. All other users must inform the Library if they change address.
  • You are responsible for returning all items issued on your card on or before the date or time due for return.
  • Library materials are provided for the benefit of all users and you must not take any action that may deprive others of access to them.
  • You are responsible for the safety of your personal possessions brought into the libraries
  • While in the libraries you should always behave appropriately and treat other users and staff with respect and courtesy.
  • You must not smoke, reserve seats or make unnecessary or excessive noise at any time.  You must not eat or drink (excluding bottled water) or use mobile telephones, except in any area designated for this purpose.
