Information for Schools and Colleges

This page provides information for schools and 6th form colleges wishing to make use of the library resources of Bath Spa University, the University of Bath, the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.

Students at schools and 6th form colleges in BANES, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire are able to use the facilities of the four university libraries in the area under the following guidelines.

There is a wealth of information available free of charge for students and others. A selection of freely available resources in education and science has been produced by colleagues at the University of Bath while UWE has produced Resources for Schools and Colleges. Your own school libraries will provide a good starting point and don’t forget to make use of the expertise of your school librarians.

Membership of public libraries is free for students, who can use their printed collections. Many public libraries also provide access to databases free of charge, within their libraries and at home. Information about library resources in BANES, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire can be found on their web pages. Alternatively, LibrariesWest is a consortium of five of these local authority library services who work together to offer a co-ordinated service to users.

School groups wishing to make use of library resources should contact the libraries through their web pages (see above/below). Individual school students should consult the libraries’ regulations for use by external people.

Students at other universities should enquire about Sconul Access through their own libraries.

Subject strengths of each of the libraries can be found on the AULIC Libraries page.

If you are a school librarian, you are welcome to contact any of our libraries, to discuss how we may be able to work with you, both to support your students and you in your work.

For more information about what we may be able to provide, you should look at the university libraries' web pages, which provide guidance on access arrangements and who to contact:
