How can I access a generic account from outside UWE? (Q070)

If you are the custodian of the generic account you will have full mailbox rights to the account granted by IT Services and can use any of the methods below.

If the custodian has granted you permission to the generic account then you will not have full mailbox rights and will only be able to use Outlook Anywhere or Xternal Access to open the generic account.

Outlook Web Access (OWA)

The advantage of using this method is that you can open the generic account from any machine on the Internet from a web browser.

Outlook Anywhere

Outlook Anywhere is a feature that allows access to the Staff E-mail system from any machine with Outlook 2007 via the Internet, such as home PCs or Laptops. You can add generic accounts to your folder list in the same way as you do on a work thick client machine.

Xternal Access (XA)

The XA system can be used to access a staff thin desktop from outside UWE via your web browser using the following instructions:-

If you already use a thin terminal in work this will be the same desktop that you usually see. If you have not used your thin desktop before then you can open Outlook and add generic accounts for which you have permission by following these instructions:-
