Bulk Mailing Information for students
IT Services have identified persistent problems with bulk mailing to the student accounts. These problems have come from two separate sources:
- External bodies emailing spam to student lists
- Students emailing non-UWE mail to each other using the student lists
As a result of this problem, ITS have looked into a variety of solutions including moderation of the emails sent to the lists, restricting the domains that can email the lists and only allowing authorised individuals to email the lists.
ITS has decided that best practice will be to only allow staff to email the lists, (both staff and student) and then only from an email address within the uwe.ac.uk domain. e.g. a @uwe.ac.uk email address.
The one exception will be the stage lists where the student members of the list will be able to send emails to it. e.g. If fred.bloggs@live.uwe.ac.uk was a member of V134_1_FT_Students, then he could send an email to all.V134_1_FT.stud@uwe.ac.uk as he belongs to the list in question.
Students will not be able to email Awards and Faculty lists. this will only be authorised for staff members.
This policy has been put into place to enforce the UWE's Acceptable Use Policy sections 7 & 8.
If there is reason to believe that someone from a @uwe.ac.uk email address has breached either of the above policies, please send the offending emails and details of the breach to its.helpdesk@uwe.ac.uk.
Alternative methods of communication include the ITS and SU notice boards:
