Bulk Mailing Information for staff

As a result of repeated misuse of the bulk email facility, it has now been withdrawn from the student body. There have been numerous complaints to ITS from the Student Union, the students themselves and via online forums stating that the abuse of this facility means that students are beginning to stop using the UWE student email system. As this is promoted as the main channel of email communication by the University to the students, this must not happen. IT Services has therefore decided to remove the bulk emailing capability for students.

The one exception will be stage lists. For these lists, the student members of the list will be able to send emails to it. e.g. If fred.bloggs@live.uwe.ac.uk was a member of V134_1_FT_Students, then he could send an email to all.V134_1_FT.stud@uwe.ac.uk, as he belongs to this list in question.

Students wishing to email the lists will need to contact its.helpdesk@uwe.ac.uk outlining their request backed up by a confirmation from their course tutor.

Staff will still be able to email both the staff and student lists.

To reduce external spam being sent to the lists, they will also now only accept email from a @uwe.ac.uk email address. This will be true for both the staff and student lists.

If you know of or wish to have a legitimate external email address have the ability to email a list, please put a request in writing to its.helpdesk@uwe.ac.uk. These requests will not be accepted for home email accounts, as all staff should have access to their uwe.ac.uk account via Outlook Web Access.

This policy has been put into place to enforce the UWE's Acceptable Use Policy sections 7 & 8.

If there is reason to believe that someone from an @uwe.ac.uk email address has breached either of the above policies, please send the complaint along with a copy of the offending email to its.helpdesk@uwe.ac.uk.

Alternative methods of communication include the ITS and SU notice boards:
