Data Retention

Please be aware that 42 days after the completion of your course, username and any data (i.e. files and emails) held on UWE systems will be deleted. IT Services is unable to retrieve data after this time.

The exception to this is UWE Live Mail, which will keep working indefinitely provided that you log in at least once every 6 months.

Therefore, please ensure that you backup all your work and correspondence on CD-ROMs, memory sticks or Microsoft Skydrive, at the end of your course at UWE. Please refer to the Storage facilities information for backing up your data.

If you have any credit balance remaining on your Pharos printing account, please contact the cash office for a refund within the 42 days mentioned above.

Also, please note that access to your module materials in Blackboard ends when the module run ends. You are therefore strongly advised to download any materials you may wish to refer to in the future before you complete a module.

What does 42 days after the completion of the course mean?

If the meeting to end the course happens on the 1st July, students get 42 days from the 1st; if it is the 15th July, they get 42 days from the 15th. There is not a particular date when all courses expire, and therefore blanket assumptions about when access is removed cannot be given.

If students are coming back for re-takes, this does not apply until they finally graduate. If they leave or are temporarily timed out, this also applies and they need to be aware of this at the appropriate time.

Please note that data is removed and all student records are closed. This means that we cannot extend or re-open access after the expiry.
