I've tried to open a file but have got an error message saying that the file is in use by IT Services and do I want to make a copy. What should I do ?


This usually occurs following your Windows 2000 session freezing up. If you then log back in again and try and re-open the file you were working on when your system froze you may see this message :

The Windows 2000 server hasn't realised that your original session is no longer being used/is not responding. The document you are trying to open is still open in that session. The Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access) is registered to IT Services so that is who the system says has the file open.

If you call the IT Support Centre then they will be able to log your original session off, thus freeing up the file to be opened by you in your new session.
