Changing Language settings

To type in multiple languages, you can type accents and other European Languages characters by using the ALT and CTRL keys. Please visit the list of characters available in Microsoft Office applications.

Otherwise, you can choose to configure the keyboard to match the language which you wish to use. However, you need to be aware that the keyboard will be set for the use of this other language. These settings will be specific to your profile and it is highly recommended that you reset the keyboard to EN (English (United Kingdom)) before logging out, as you may have difficulty logging back with the keyboard set in French, for example.

Student Thin Client

To change the keyboard settings:
Open Microsoft Office Word (or any Microsoft applications) and the Language tool bar will appear.
Click on it and you will see a selection of languages.
If the language you are looking for is not there, right-hand click on the Language tool bar and click on Settings.

On the bottom right hand corner of your desktop, you will see a dark blue square with the initials EN. Right click on it and choose the option Settings.

In the Text Services box

Default Input Language must be set to the keyboard settings of the language you wish (for example French (France)).
If it is not showing in the drop down list, click on Add in the Installed Services section

In the Add Input Language, change the Input Language to French (France)

When completed, click on Apply, close the application and restart it. The changes will then take place, and will be saved with your profile (i.e. your user ID).

To change the Microsoft Office Language settings:
Click on Start on your Start menu
Go to Programs
Go to Microsoft Office Tools
Go to Microsoft Office Language Settings

Under Available languages, leave as All scripts

In the box underneath, choose the language (i.e. French) and click on Add

In the box Default version of Microsoft Office, also choose the language (i.e. French)

In the Microsoft Office Language Settings, click on Continue and lose customizations, but ensure that you read the warning message.

Close and restart the application.

Student Thick Client

To change the keyboard settings:
Click on Start on your Start menu
Go to Programs
Go to Accessories
Go to International Languages

In the Text Services box

Default Input Language must be set to the keyboard settings of the language you wish (for example French (France)).
If it is not showing in the drop down list, click on Add in the Installed Services section

In the Add Input Language, change the Input Language to French (France)

When completed, click on Apply, close the application and restart it. The changes will then take place, and will be saved with your profile (i.e. your user ID).
