Access the internet and UWE from home
The Central Audio Visual Services (CAVS) Team has recently joined IT Services and is a small dedicated team of technical personnel who are responsible for the provision of Audio Visual facilities within the University’s centrally owned and managed areas.
IT Services provide Internet and Email access in the Street Café in S Block and the entrance of the Bolland Library level 2 on the Frenchay Campus.
Distance learning means that you study on your own, at home or wherever suits you. The University recommends that you use the following tools (accessible via the Internet):-
NHS Academies – External Access
This system has been developed to allow access to UWE resources from external points with internet access. These designated sites, NHS Academies have been created to allow student access to UWE student labs as if they were physically on-site including the ability to print.
Net Plus Wireless and Docking – New locations!
Net Plus is a new facility run by IT Services which allows students to connect their own laptops to the UWE network utilising both wired (Net Plus Docking) and wireless (Net Plus Wireless) technologies.
This service allows both staff and students to gain access to their personal drive H: and faculty shared drives S: (and also T: for staff members). You will also be able to access features on the UWE intranet as though you are on campus.
ResNet is the UWE Residential Network service run by IT Services, providing computer connections to must University accommodation alls of residence and houses.
ServiceIT - The web based Customer Service Centre from RMS.
All UWE staff members now have access to ServiceIT. ServiceIT can be found on the ITS Home Page under Support Staff and Academic Staff.
The Telecommunications Team is responsible for the maintenance and development of the telephone network and associated systems e.g. voice mail and call queuing. We also produce the monthly call logging reports and deal with equipment purchases such as telephones and fax machines.
Ingres Student Information System
ISIS2 is the University's award infrastructure and student record tracking management system, developed in-house by IT Services. It is pivotal in the management of a wide range of administrative functions: recording all enrolments as processed by Admissions on SITS; handling staff records; raising fees information which is then made available on the finance system, Agresso; generating computer IDs and library logins; and other high profile functions such as HESA returns
