The UWE student e-mail system, Outlook Live, is a product of Microsoft Live@Edu. UWE provides information to Microsoft Corporation in the form of email addresses and initial passwords. This information is used solely for the purposes of maintaining the active status of the account. The control of which accounts are hosted by Microsoft Corporation lies with UWE. Information about which accounts are hosted can be obtained under the terms of the 1998 Data Protection Act. The University’s data protection policy can be viewed by clicking on the following link: University of the West of England Data Protection Policy. When you join the Outlook Live system, you will be required to register for the Microsoft Passport Network. As part of this process you will need to agree to the Microsoft Passport Network Terms and Conditions. Personal information collected on Microsoft sites and services may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries or agents maintain facilities, and by using a Microsoft site or service, you consent to any such transfer of information outside your country. However, Microsoft abides by the safe harbour framework as set forth by the US Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of data from the European Union. Therefore, Microsoft will not disclose your personal information outside Microsoft and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates without your consent. Signing the form (or in this instance, clicking OK when first using Outlook Live (See the screen shot below)) means that you accept these terms and conditions for the processing of your data.
