Welcome to ISHE

The University of the West of England (UWE) Institute for Sustainability, Health and Environment aims to influence and increase integration in relation to policy creation and delivery at national and international levels.

Staff in ISHE have received funding from a range of prestigious organisations including the EPSRC, ESRC, NERC, the Soil Association, government departments in the UK and overseas, the EU, the Environment Agency and BIG Lottery funding and works with a wide range of organisations at local, regional, national and international level.

Suburban Adaptation for a Changing Climate (SNACC)
Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council funded project to look at how the UKs suburbs need to adapt to cope with the threat of climate change.

Science for Environment Policy, a weekly electronic news bulletin, provides a platform to bridge the gap between research and policy.

Urban Planning

Spatial Planning and Health Collaborating Centre for NICE
UWE has been appointed following a competitive tender process as a Spatial Planning and Health Collaborating Centre from December 2009.

Adult Care

Sustainable Social Care
Commissioned by the Department of Health, this one year project is investigating how the principles of sustainable development can be integrated into the planning and delivery of adult social care.
