Undergraduate Degrees in Sociology

Introduction

Sociology has come a long way since its ‘Founding Fathers’: Karl Marx, Max Weber and Emile Durkheim developed theories to explain the development of modern industrial societies in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Sociologists today investigate an amazing range of human affairs and social issues. These include education, crime, the media, ‘race’, gender, health, the body, sexuality, work, leisure, religion, cyberspace and many more.

Sociology offers something of interest to all students whatever their personal background or interests. Therefore, by studying sociology you will learn more not only about the world around you, but also more about yourself. As an undergraduate student, learning will involve the acquisition of both sociological knowledge and skills. This will require you to read widely, think independently and use your general intellectual curiosity. If this is a challenge that you would look forward to, then we would like to hear from you.
