Units and Projects

BCL is host to a growing number of units and projects:

International Corpus Linguistics Research Unit, with four corpora at its heart the Corpus of the Learner Language Project, a quadrilingual corpus dealing with development of L2 learners’ oral proficiency, Parallel (translation) corpora, corpus of spontaneous spoken French, The KEMPE Corpus of Early Modern Plays

VOCABUILD - Vocabulary development of bilingual children referred for speech and language therapy

Critical Metaphor Theory Project, a corpus-based discourse analysis project centred on the relation between language, gender, and the experience of bodily states

Vocabulary and conceptual representations in bilinguals and L2 learners, spanning the areas of lexicology and second-language learning  

Turkish Language and Immigration Project (TULIP) analysing the bilingual language competence in the first and second language of Turkish adolescents in Europe (especially Germany), by comparison with control groups of returnees to Turkey and monolingual Turkish students in Turkey.

The Bristol Regional Language and Languages Project (BReLL), a new and developing project aiming to study the regional accents and dialects of the Bristol area and the range of modern spoken languages that can be heard there.
