MA in History

Introduction

St Matthias Campus

Postgraduate studies in History at UWE have an established pedigree. Whether for personal development or professional advancement, students from a variety of backgrounds have found studying for a postgraduate qualification in History challenging, but at the same time, extremely rewarding.

The programme invites you to expand your understanding of current trends in History, broaden your knowledge of historical events, and deepen your skills in researching and interpreting the past. It provides a bridge between the relatively structured forms of study at undergraduate level and the independent research and scholarship of the professional historian. It provides a useful training for postgraduate research, as well as providing an interesting challenge in its own right.

The programme includes Late Mediaeval, Early Modern and Modern history, covering Britain, Europe, USA and the world, and encompassing social, intellectual, political and economic history.

Various awards are available to assist in funding postgraduate research. Small sums are offered by the Royal Historical Society and full and part-time study awards are offered by the Arts & Humanities Research Board.

The Department of History also offers MA Regional Histories.
