Research

History staff are research active, the latest Research Assessment Exercise (2008) rated more than 90% of the History Department’s research to be world leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognized.

Public History

Many of our staff are involved in history in the media, frequently appearing in television and on the radio. We also act as specialist advisers to various bodies, including the Anti-Slavery Society, Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, the British Academy, British immigration and asylum assessors, the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the National Maritime Museum, the Open University, the Royal Military College of Canada, and UNESCO
