Exceptional Items
Exceptional Items are specific to Research Council bids only. This section should be used for PGR Student Bursaries and Fees where the University is allowed to claim 100% of these costs.
In addition Exceptional Items can be used for that element of equipment bids that are in excess of £50,000 and therefore qualify for 100% reimbursement from the Research Councils.
It should be noted that costings for PGR students require a second fEC as a number of adjustments have to be made because the information required for JES is different to the information required for UWE’s project accounts. For example we have to cost academic supervision time. However, Research Councils will not fund this cost. Also, we have to account for the Indirect and Estates Charges relating to the PGR student but again the Research Council will not pay for this cost. Finally, the PGR student fees are recorded as income only and are not treated as a cost for fEC purposes.
