Examples

Here are some examples of good practice with the use of technology in learning.

Resource-based learning

Resource-based learning involves the use of a wide range of materials in a variety of media, that are formed into a learning environment or learning experience for students. Students can use a set of resources to solve a problem or synthesise a new approach to a subject, while at the same time learning how to source and use resources before they can get the most out of the experience.

Probably the most important point to make about e-learning courses is that they are fundamentally different from classroom, face-to-face courses.

Tools used

The Resource-Based Learning course developed by Liz Falconer and Manuel Frutos-Perez is now available on Blackboard. This is an example Blackboard module that discusses and demonstrates some of the issues of the resource-based approach to e-learning. The module contains embedded movies, narrated presentations and interactive activities to demonstrate some of the functionality that you can incorporate in Blackboard. We don't intend it to be a "how to" module - rather it's intended to stimulate ideas and discussion. Login details (available internally only).

E-learning Course Design

Courses designed for E-learning are courses that have had learning objects and units created specifically for online delivery.

Such courses are created with various applications and optimising them for web delivery using translation tools (many of which are already available to members of staff at UWE).

Tools used

Go to the tools section of our website for more information about the translation tools:

Additionally, participants can learn how to effectively create a plan for the implementation of a unique online course as well as to develop online instructional modules and lessons.

Computer Aided Assessment

Computer aided assessment refers to assessments carried out using computers. These assessments can be delivered online or offline and/or assments that are marked using computers.

These assessments can be Summative or Formative.
