BITE SIZE Technology Enhanced Learning
Sessions now completed!
We hosted a series of short 45 minute long staff development sessions throughout May, June, and July 2012. We looked at various ways that technology can be used to enhance learning.
All sessions were held in the Education Innovation Centre
The sessions covered...
Creating presence through absence
We looked at why staff don't need to be present in traditional teaching spaces for effective learning to take place. The session covered the effective use of VLE's like Blackboard, virtual worlds, and other online technologies in helping facilitate education.
Second life - real time simulation building professional practice into learning
This session examined the use of simulations to allow students to experience events and situations that would normally be difficult to replicate in real life. Examples demonstrated how such simulations can be used to teach and assess.
Time saving high tech feedback. Lync and Duopen pens
How to use the Lync system (already installed on most staff machines) to quickly record audio visual feedback for students. Also, how the Duopen can be used to create live annotations in a classroom situation and add feedback to submitted coursework.
How to make modules more flexible and tips for designing and running multi-mode courses. We looked at Adaptive Release and how Blackboard can be setup to help deliver content based on student progress and activity.
