CESR is a dedicated UWE Research Centre based at Bristol Business School.

CESR's research agenda has developed to embrace emerging theoretical and public policy concerns and currently includes five inter-related themes:

This website includes details of CESR's recent and ongoing activities, profiles of staff and information about research opportunities within CESR and the Department of HRM.

Employment Studies is a broad and mulit-disciplinary field. It encompasses different theoretical and interest group perspectives on the nature of the employment relationship, the changing world of work, the structure and functioning of labour markets, the role of social agents and of government. It is an established area of research strength at the University of the West of England where the Employment Studies Research Unit (ESRU) within the Business School's human resource management subject group gained research centre status in 2000. The Centre for Employment Studies Research (CESR), as it is now known, has 25 members who include new researchers and doctoral students in addition to established researchers whose work has gained national or international recognition. Although a majority are in the Business School, CESR has extended its membership to include researchers in other UWE schools and faculties whose interests complement and help to develop its research portfolio.
