Aims and Objectives

Home page of the University of the West of England, Bristol
  • Develop better understanding of the actions and services of environmental consultancies acting as intermediaries between local authorities and stakeholders involved in air quality management.
  • Assess and increase environmental consultancies engagement with previous guidance document produced from previously completed ESRC funded research.
  • Identify barriers to implementing the findings of previous ESRC research, and identify strategies for increasing its uptake.
  • Produce supplementary guidance document  which reflects the specific needs of environmental consultancies interfacing with local authorities.
  • Embed use of the guidance in practices, potentially increasing the effectiveness of public services and public policy.

This project follows on from ESRC funded project Consultation as Science Communication? The Case of Local Air Quality management (RES-1551-25-0044) which was completed in 2006.  Consultancies represent local authorities during consultation on different aspects of LAQM.  This project focuses on environmental consultancies and seeks to engage them with the guidance document "Steps to Better Practice Guidance for Local Authorities on LAQM Consultation" produced in our previous ESRC -funded research project
